Description
Summary
Home Farm offers a rare opportunity to rent a substantial country residence together with The Old Granary, Tithe Barn, extensive gardens, swimming pool, tennis court and surrounding woodland setting.
At the heart of the property lies a handsome farmhouse, originally built in the 16th century and extended over subsequent centuries to create the impressive home seen today. It offers five reception rooms and eight bedrooms, approached by a private gated, tree lined drive off Mead Lane and surrounded by delightful gardens and grounds
Renewable energy installations include ground mounted solar panels and panels on the granary roof.
Home Farmhouse
Originally built in the 16th century, Home Farmhouse is of brick and flint construction with traditional, clay-tiled roofing. The handsome farmhouse is set at the end of a private tree lined, gated driveway and forms the centre of the surrounding farm.
The accommodation extends to 6,727 sq ft and lies over three floors with a cellar beneath. The farmhouse was extended in the 1900s, creating fine reception rooms (sitting room, drawing room, dining room) featuring sash windows and high ceilings. The accommodation on the ground floor also comprises the entrance hall, study, conservatory, kitchen and utility. On the first and second floor are eight bedrooms (four en-suite) and three family bathrooms.
Gardens
The current owners have created attractive gardens and grounds, including formal and kitchen gardens, planted borders and arboretum. There is also a wonderfully unique tiered garden with an open-fronted summer house and terrace for entertaining, an outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court.
Garden and pool maintenance included.
Cottages
The Old Granary provides well presented secondary accommodation with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and generous open plan living space.
Garden Cottage is occupied by the resident housekeeper and is not included within the tenancy. Subject to agreement, tenants may have the option to retain the services of the housekeeper, with costs reimbursed separately.
The Tithe Barn provides useful ancillary accommodation/storage.
Land
The grounds include formal gardens, kitchen gardens, mature woodland, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, summer houses and changing huts. Tenants will also have access to enjoy walks across the wider farm woodland and surrounding agricultural land.
The property is set within approximately 15 acres of private gardens, grounds and woodland surrounding the principal buildings.
Location
Home Farm enjoys a wonderfully private position on the edge of Upper Basildon, a sought-after West Berkshire village with exceptional views across the Thames Valley and distant Chiltern Hills. The property is situated approximately 3 miles west of Pangbourne and 9 miles west of Reading. Goring and Streatley are all within three miles distance and provide local amenities.
Despite its tranquil rural setting, the property is exceptionally well connected, with Pangbourne’s range of day-to-day amenities and mainline station providing fast and regular rail services to London Paddington in under an hour.
