THEAREA Beeston is one of the most popular areas for students studying in Nottingham, particularly those attending The University of Nottingham. Known for its lively atmosphere, strong sense of community, and excellent transport links, Beeston offers students a perfect balance between convenience and affordability, with everything you need right on your doorstep.
Proximity to Universities
Beeston is especially ideal for students at The University of Nottingham, as it's located just minutes from the main University Park Campus. Many students can walk or cycle to lectures in under 10-15 minutes, making it an incredibly convenient place to live. Nottingham Trent University students also find Beeston well-connected, with public transport options that can get you to the NTU City Campus in about 30 minutes by tram or bus.
Excellent Public Transport
Beeston is very well-served by Nottingham's extensive public transport network. The NET tram system connects Beeston directly to both the University of Nottingham and Nottingham city centre, with trams running frequently throughout the day. This makes it easy for students to get to campus or head into the city for shopping, nightlife, or other activities. Buses also run regularly through Beeston, and cycling is another popular option thanks to safe, student-friendly bike routes.
Housing Options
Beeston offers a range of affordable accommodation options, from shared student houses to apartments, making it a great choice for students on a budget. Rent prices in Beeston tend to be more reasonable than in the city centre or other nearby student areas, and with plenty of housing specifically aimed at students, it's easy to find the perfect place to live while keeping costs down.
Shops and Amenities
Beeston is a bustling area full of everything students need for day-to-day life. There are numerous supermarkets, including Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Lidl, as well as independent shops and local businesses. Beeston High Road is packed with cafes, takeaways, pubs, and restaurants catering to a student budget, so whether you're after a quick coffee or a full meal with friends, you'll find plenty of options. Beeston Square also has a cinema and more retail outlets, making it a great spot for relaxing or shopping without having to head into the city.
Vibrant Social Scene
Beeston is home to a large student population, which creates a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. There are plenty of student-friendly pubs, including the ever-popular The Crown Inn and The Star Inn, as well as several cafes and restaurants perfect for meeting up with friends. Beeston's proximity to the university means there are always events and social opportunities, both on and off-campus.
Green Spaces and Outdoor Activities
One of the perks of living in Beeston is the access to beautiful green spaces. Highfields Park, located on the edge of the University of Nottingham's campus, is perfect for a stroll, picnic, or outdoor study session. Attenborough Nature Reserve is just a short bike ride away and offers scenic walking trails, birdwatching, and peaceful surroundings - a great escape from the hustle of university life.
Strong Sense of Community
Beeston is known for its strong local community, which gives it a friendly and welcoming feel. Students who live in Beeston often appreciate the balance between being part of a student community while also engaging with local residents and enjoying the quieter residential areas. The town hosts various markets, festivals, and events throughout the year, allowing students to feel more integrated into the area.
