The Watch-House attached to the former Church of St. John's Horsleydown, Bermondsey, also known as "St. John's Hall," is one of only three surviving watch houses in Southwark, all of which are Grade II listed.
Built in the 18th century, St. John's Hall is the oldest and largest of the three. It stands in the former burial grounds of St. John's Horsleydown, which ceased operations in 1968. The site was later purchased by the London City Mission. Today, the watch house is privately owned and is set apart from the former burial ground, now a public park.
Horsleydown is a historic area of Bermondsey, located at the foot of the south approach to Tower Bridge. Dating back to medieval times, the area once stretched from the vicinity of what is now Potters Fields Park, along the river to St. Saviour’s Dock, and extended southward roughly to the viaduct that carries the railway into London Bridge Station.
